More and more, crochet is being incorporated into the fashion world. Crochet clothing is perfect for both summertime and colder weather, as it can be dressed up or down.
In this blog post, we will show you how to make a Lotus Baby Dress using basic crochet stitches. This project is easy to follow and makes a unique dress that your little one will love to wear.
This Lotus Baby Dress Crochet Pattern is from the popular book “The Crochet Crowd” by Rebecca Elliott. The author has put together a wonderful, versatile and easy to follow crochet pattern that is perfect for baby girls. The dress measures 16 inches wide x 22 inches long after blocking.
You will need just a little less than 100 yards of worsted weight yarn to complete this project. You will also need a J crochet hook, P6 sc stitch marker, T-pins and scissors.

The foundation chain in this pattern is made using the slip Stitch method. Make a slip knot on your hook and insert it into the first stitch of the desired count, yarn over and pull through both stitches on your hook (1 st). Do this again (2 sts). Continue doing this until you reach the end of your chain or desired length. You can also make this chain using regular single crochets (see video tutorial below).
For the body of the dress, begin by working in rounds but do not join until you are ready to do so. Round 1: Work 6 sc in ring (6 sts) Round 2: Work 2 sc in each st around (12 sts) Round 3: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around (18 sts)
For the crochet baby dress, you will need:
- Worsted weight yarn in light green, dark green, and brown
- Size H/8 (5.0mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Stitch markers
- Fertilizer or powdered sugar
- Begin by making a magic ring.
- Chain 2 and make 8 sc in the ring. (8 stitches)
- *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around. (12 stitches)
- Switch to dark green yarn and continue working in rounds: Sc in each stitch around. (12 stitches)
- Chain 1 and turn work so that your RS is facing outwards. Working into the first sc of the round, make a slip stitch evenly spaced along the edge of your circle – you now have a circular base for your baby dress! Leave a long tail for sewing later on. Cut off any remaining yarn ends and thread them through your stitch marker to keep track of where you are in the round (or use a second marker if desired). Round 5’s slip stitch will count as your first hdc of this round!
6 For round 6, join your light green yarn with your slipstitched end – this forms the shoulder seam of your dress! Ch 1 and hdc evenly around the edge of your circle (8 hdc), changing colors to brown on each h.
Crochet Lotus Baby Dress: This crochet baby dress is a simple and easy pattern that can be made in minutes. The crocheted fabric is light and airy, making it perfect for hot summer days. The dress is worked in the round from the bottom up, so there are no seams to sew!
To make this crochet baby dress, you will need:
-400 yards of light weight yarn (we used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice)
-1 set of 5mm crocheter’s hooks
-Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
The Pattern:
Gauge isn’t important for this project as the finished size will be determined by how tight or loose you make the fit. If your gauge differs significantly, please adjust your hook size accordingly. 😉
The Lotus Baby Dress is worked using ch3 spns at the end of each round instead of dc’s to create a slightly slouchy effect. Be sure not to miss any ch3 spns when counting rounds! You can also opt to work dc’s instead if desired.
